Why Crested Butte is the Perfect Wedding Destination

Imagine exchanging vows surrounded by towering peaks, vibrant wildflowers, or fresh snow. Crested Butte isn’t just another mountain town; it’s the wildflower capital of Colorado and a hidden gem for couples who value authenticity over extravagance.

Here’s why it stands out:

  • Unmatched Beauty: Crested Butte’s rugged charm and expansive views are unmatched. Whether you’re dreaming of lush summer meadows or snow-kissed winter landscapes, this town delivers year-round magic.
  • Unique Venues: From rustic ranches to secluded outdoor spaces, Crested Butte caters to every wedding style.
  • Adventure for Guests: Your wedding is more than a day; it’s an experience. Think hiking, skiing, or simply soaking up the mountain air.

Top Wedding Venues in Crested Butte

As your photographer, I’ve scouted the best spots to create breathtaking images. Here are a few favorites:

  1. Mountain Wedding Garden: A stunning outdoor venue that’s all about those sweeping mountain views.
  2. Crested Butte Mountain Resort: Where the towering peaks, wildflower meadows, and alpine forests create a storybook backdrop. Whether you envision exchanging vows under the open skies at Ten Peaks or hosting a candlelit reception at the elegant Lodge at Mountaineer Square, this resort promises an unforgettable blend of romance and adventure.
  3. Private Alpine Fields: Exclusive insights on these hidden gems are available to my clients—locations that feel straight out of a fairytale.
  4. Woods Walk: Located in the crooks of the aspens, this is one of the most popular outdoor wedding venues in the area. Set your wedding up right outside with the beautiful mountains and wilderness behind you. This venue is a timeless setting for you and your soulmate’s special day and it’ll be a wedding your guests will never forget. The cool thing about this location is that you have to walk through a groomed ski trail to get to it—your guests will be required to wear snowshoes and cross-country skis to get there, so it’s a one-of-a-kind experience for sure.
  5. Peanut Lake: Nestled right on the shores of the lake, this is an open and wild wedding location for those who love adventure and the outdoors. Overflowing with beautiful wild grasses and willows, this location is the perfect way to bring in a new marriage. Unlike Woods Walk, this location is easy to get to and a great option if you have a larger guest list. Enjoy the beautiful views while you say your “I dos”!

Pro Tip: My clients receive access to a curated guide with lesser-known locations and insider tips to elevate your day.

Location Permits & Fees

Crested Butte—like any other spot in CO and beyond—is pretty chill about where you elope so long as you’re doing your homework. While there aren’t too many spots on the map where you’re not allowed to say your “I Dos,” I always tell the couples I work with that we have to make sure everything is by the book.

Why?

Because some spots require paperwork, permits, fees, and more in order to ensure that everything is kosher. The last thing you want to deal with on your elopement day is a hefty fine for getting married where you’re not legally allowed to—right?

When you work with me, we’ll check out all the details for the locations where you might want to get married. We’ll make sure everything is beautiful, seamless, and totally legal!

  • Winter (November-April): Picture snow-draped peaks and cozy mountain vibes.
  • Spring (May): A quieter season when the snow melts to reveal budding greenery.
